How to Use

RF Shielding Foil is designed for large-area radio frequency shielding in building and renovation projects. It can be used on walls, ceilings, loft spaces, roof areas and other surfaces where RF shielding is required.

Before ordering, measure the area carefully and allow extra material for overlaps, edges, corners and any installation adjustments. As this product is supplied as a custom cut length, it is important to check your measurements before placing your order.

Before installation, measure the area with a suitable RF meter to identify the strongest signal direction and confirm where shielding is needed. RF shielding works best when the source direction, coverage area and possible signal leakage points are understood before installing.

Roll or lay the foil onto the desired surface and secure it using suitable fixings for the substrate. For best shielding continuity, overlap each section by approximately 10–15 cm / 4–6 inches.

Seal the overlapping joints with conductive aluminium foil tape to help prevent shielding gaps. Pay close attention to corners, seams, socket areas, edges, windows and service penetrations, as small gaps can reduce overall shielding performance.

If the foil is being used to help reduce low-frequency AC electric fields, grounding may be required. Grounding should be carried out safely and in line with suitable electrical guidance.

Important Installation Notes

• Measure your required length carefully before ordering, as this product is custom cut to size.
• Allow extra material for overlaps, trimming, corners, edges and installation adjustments.
• Measure RF levels before and after installation with a suitable RF meter.
• Overlap sections by approximately 10–15 cm / 4–6 inches.
• Tape joints with conductive aluminium foil tape for better shielding continuity.
• Grounding may be required if using the foil for low-frequency AC electric field reduction.
• This material can act as a vapour barrier and is not breathable, so building moisture control must be considered.
• Shielding performance depends on coverage, installation quality, overlap, grounding and leakage points.
• Custom cut goods are supplied to your selected size and cannot be returned unless faulty or defective.

FAQs

What is RF Shielding Foil used for?

RF Shielding Foil is used to help reduce radio frequency signals entering a space from external sources such as nearby wireless networks, smart meters, phone masts, microwave transmitters and neighbouring devices.

Is this supplied in custom sizes only?

Yes. This product is supplied as a custom cut length based on your selected size. Please measure carefully before ordering and allow extra material for overlaps, trimming, corners and installation adjustments.

Where can it be installed?

It can be installed behind drywall, in loft spaces, under roofing materials, under plaster, under stucco or across suitable wall and ceiling areas during new construction or renovation work.

Does it block WiFi and mobile signals?

It is designed to shield radio frequency signals, including common wireless signal types. The final result depends on the installation method, coverage area, overlaps, gaps and whether signals can enter through unshielded areas such as windows, doors, floors or ceilings.

Can it reduce smart meter radiation?

It can be used as part of a shielding approach for reducing RF signals from smart meters, provided the foil is positioned correctly between the source and the area being protected. Measuring before and after installation is strongly recommended.

Does it reduce magnetic fields?

No. RF Shielding Foil is designed for radio frequency shielding and low-frequency AC electric field reduction when grounded. It is not designed for low-frequency magnetic field shielding. Magnetic fields require specialist magnetic shielding materials.

Can it reduce electric fields?

Yes, it can act as a barrier against low-frequency AC electric fields when correctly grounded. Grounding should be carried out safely and may require professional advice.

Does it need to be grounded?

Grounding is usually required when the aim is to reduce low-frequency electric fields. For RF shielding, grounding may be beneficial depending on the installation, but the overall design should be considered carefully.

How much should each section overlap?

Overlap sections by approximately 10–15 cm / 4–6 inches, then tape the joints with conductive aluminium foil tape to help prevent shielding gaps.

Can it be used as a vapour barrier?

Yes, it can be used as a vapour barrier because it is not breathable. This should be considered carefully in building projects to avoid trapping moisture in the wrong place.

Is it suitable for DIY installation?

It can be installed by capable DIY users, but larger shielding projects should be planned carefully. For grounding, electrical safety or complex building installations, consult a qualified professional.

Can I return it if I order the wrong size?

As this product is custom cut to your selected size, returns cannot be accepted for incorrect measurements, change of mind or unsuitable sizing. Returns can only be accepted if the item has a manufacturing defect or is received in a faulty condition.
