Shielding is not one-size-fits-all. RF fields, electric fields and magnetic fields behave differently, so they often require different approaches.
How Shielding Works
Different EMF types need different materials, placement and measurement methods.
Shop EMF Meters
RF Shielding
Used for wireless signal reduction from WiFi, phones, Bluetooth and smart meters.
Electric Field Shielding
May involve conductive materials and grounding where appropriate.
Magnetic Shielding
Needs specialist magnetic shielding material and careful placement.
Measure Before & After
Measurements help confirm whether the setup is working as intended.
Shielding Types Explained
RF shielding is usually used for wireless signals such as WiFi, mobile phones, Bluetooth, smart meters and nearby masts. RF shielding materials can include conductive fabrics, meshes, films, paints, foils and canopies. Gaps, seams, windows, doors and coverage direction can all affect performance.
Electric fields are linked to voltage around wiring, sockets, cables and powered equipment. Electric field shielding often uses conductive materials and grounding where appropriate. Grounding should be handled safely and should not be guessed.
Magnetic fields are linked to electrical current flow and are not reduced in the same way as RF signals. They can occur near power cables, breaker panels, transformers, appliances and electrical risers. Specialist magnetic shielding materials can help redirect or reduce low-frequency magnetic fields when placed correctly.
Different Shielding Use Cases
A layered shielding setup depends on the field type, source direction and measurements. More layers are not automatically better unless the measurements support the approach.

Detector Guide by Field Type
| Field Type | What It Usually Comes From | Detector / Meter Type | Product Direction |
|---|---|---|---|
| RF | WiFi, phones, Bluetooth, smart meters | RF meter / Safe and Sound style detector | RF shielding products |
| Electric Fields | sockets, wiring, cables, powered equipment | electric field meter or multi-field EMF meter | groundable shielding where appropriate |
| Magnetic Fields | breaker panels, transformers, appliances, current-carrying cables | low-frequency magnetic field meter / multi-field EMF meter | G-Iron ArmoFlex magnetic shielding |
Direction, overlap, gaps, grounding, distance and material choice all affect performance. A material placed in the wrong area may not reduce the field in the position the customer actually cares about.
